The University of Puerto Rico (UPRRP) Río Piedras Campus proudly announces the First Río Piedras International Book Fair (FIL RÍO 2025), which will take place from November 3 to 8, 2025, on the Río Piedras campus and in the city center. This event will mark a historic milestone as the first international book fair organized by a university in Puerto Rico, reaffirming the cultural and academic leadership of the UPRRP as the leading institution in the Caribbean.

FIL RÍO 2025 will feature high-caliber international authors and guests, who will join local writers, researchers, artists, publishers, booksellers, and community organizations to celebrate the power of words and critical thinking.

Among them are, from Puerto Rico: Vanessa Droz, Cezanne Cardona, Mayra Santos-Febres, Magali García Ramis, Gianina Braschi, Glorimar Marrero, Hermes Ayala, Tina Casanova, and Georgina Lázaro. From abroad, the following: Guadalupe Tzotzil, Julián Hebert, and Emiliano Becerril from Mexico; Irma Velazquez from Guatemala; Frank Báez from the Dominican Republic; Ana Garralón, Ignacio Peyró, and Clara Morales from Spain; Dani Zelk from Argentina; and Sébastien Onomo from France.

Through conferences, presentations, forums, workshops, and cultural activities, the fair seeks to create a meeting place for academic knowledge, literary creation, and the community.

“FIL RÍO represents the essence of who we are as a university: a space for dialogue, reflection, and transformation. From Río Piedras, we reaffirm our regional leadership and our commitment to the community, culture, education, and human development,” said Dr. Angélica Varela Llavona, rector of the UPR Río Piedras Campus.

Dr. Alexandra Pagán Vélez, writer and program coordinator for the event, said that “FIL RÍO is a platform that promotes intellectual creation, cultural exchange, and the international projection of our literature.”

In its social dimension and under the motto “UPR is community,” FIL RÍO reaffirms the University’s commitment to the revitalization of Río Piedras, strengthening ties between academia and the community through culture, the creative economy, and collaborative thinking. The fair will also uniquely celebrate linguistic diversity, cultural richness, and the transformative power of reading in the region.
