By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 29-year-old construction worker from Burrell Boom is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being unable to meet bail for an aggravated assault charge.
The accused, Marvin Garma, of the Fresh Pond area in Burrell Boom Village, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Tuesday, where he was read a single charge of aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument, to wit, a knife, upon another man during a misunderstanding in the village.
Garma initially pleaded guilty but quickly disputed the police version of events, insisting that the man had cursed at his partner and that he had witnesses. After clarification, Magistrate Dennison entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Prosecutors raised no objection to bail, and Garma was granted bail of $1,500 plus one surety with strict conditions, including that he must not contact the complainant or any prosecution witnesses and must remain at least 100 yards away from the complainant.
However, Garma was unable to meet the bail requirements and was remanded to prison until he can do so. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 11, 2025.
