By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sixty-seven-year-old retired teacher Edilma Aguilar of the Lords Bank area, Ladyville, returned to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where a date was confirmed for her Preliminary Inquiry (PI) in a fatal traffic matter stemming from a 2024 collision.
Aguilar appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1, where it was noted that she had previously been provided with partial disclosure comprising 59 pages in August 2025. She was expected to receive the remainder of her disclosure at Tuesday’s hearing; however, the matter was adjourned to January 13, 2026, for the outstanding disclosure to be tendered.
The court has set Aguilar’s Preliminary Inquiry for January 27, 2026.
Aguilar was first arraigned on April 16, 2025, initially charged with causing death by careless conduct. The charges arise from a fatal traffic accident that occurred on March 16, 2024, at the junction of Lords Bank Road and the Hollywood area.
Police allege that upon responding to the scene, Aguilar identified herself as the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Officers found a Hispanic male, later identified as Armando Moralez, lying on the ground with head injuries, alongside a yellow tricycle.
Investigations indicated that both the pickup and the tricycle were travelling in the direction of the Hollywood area when the man on the tricycle reportedly crashed into Aguilar’s vehicle and fell. Moralez later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. on the same day.
Following statements and a review of the case file, directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions resulted in Aguilar being charged with manslaughter by negligence and causing death by careless conduct.
The case returns to court on January 13, 2026, ahead of the scheduled Preliminary Inquiry later in the month.
