Repeat drug offender lands in jail for crack pipe with 19th drug conviction

Posted: Monday, April 8, 2024. 12:40 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Sixty-year-old Ladyville resident, Robert Bainton, has been remanded to prison until he can settle over $1,500 in unpaid fines to the court after picking up his 19th drug-related conviction.

Bainton appeared in court on Friday to answer to a single charge of possession of a drug utensil for a crack pipe. He pleaded guilty and was fined $400 plus $5 cost of court. He was given until June 28 to pay the fine, in default, four months in prison.

Unfortunately for him, however, he was in debt of $1,784 to the court for previous drug related convictions and could not make a significant enough payment toward the fine to avoid being sent to prison. He paid $25 towards his debt, but was remanded to prison until he can make a more significant payment.
