Registration closes Friday for 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Registration for the 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic closes today, Friday, December 27, at 5:00 p.m. Organized by KREM Radio in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) under the regulations of the International Cycling Union (UCI), this highly anticipated event will take place on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

As of Friday midday, 60 riders had registered for the event, according to the CFB. In total, the CFB has 120 cyclists registered across all categories. The event is open to both local and foreign riders, who are invited to compete in various categories, including Open Elite, U-23, Masters, Junior, and Youth.

The event, which is held on the Philip Goldson Highway, starts at 9:00 a.m. and will feature races for both men and women. The Open Elite and Masters’ (including Masters & 50+) race will commence from the Santa Elena Border in Corozal to Belize City, the Men’s Junior/Youth and Women’s Open races run from Orange Walk to Belize City, while the Women’s Junior/Youth goes from the Crooked Tree Roundabout to Belize City. All races finish in front of Super Store on Central American Blvd.

Registration is being conducted online through the 2025 KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic Google form link. The registration fee is $40 per rider, inclusive of a timing chip, with an additional $30 race radio fee per team. Foreign riders are required to pay an $80 registration fee, plus the race radio fee if eligible.

The event, known for attracting top cyclists from Belize and abroad, is set to be a thrilling start to the new year, showcasing the talent and competitive spirit of the cycling community.

The CFB said cyclists and teams who wish to participate must complete their registration by the deadline on Friday to be part of this prestigious event.
