By Aaron Humes: Belizeans bundled up as the country faced a severe cold snap this week. Minimum temperatures dipped significantly overnight, with records shattered in several regions of the country. The coldest temperatures were concentrated in the northern and western areas, while milder conditions lingered in the Belize district and along the coast, including offshore cayes.

Preliminary data from the National Meteorological Service indicates that February 2 saw historic lows across Belize, with Libertad in Corozal and Gallon Jug in Orange Walk both recording an astonishing minimum temperature of 41.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Other notable low readings included Baldy Beacon at 43.8 degrees Fahrenheit; Tower Hill at 46.1 degrees Fahrenheit; and Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) and Melinda both at 50.9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Residents are advised to brace for continued cool temperatures as the chilly weather system lingers. The National Meteorological Service has urged the public to stay informed on current weather conditions through the “Belize Weather” mobile app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app provides real-time updates along with access to all current watches and warnings.
