By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Real Madrid’s and Brazil’s Vinicius Junior  was the man of the hour at the FIFA The Best Awards 2024 on December 17, making a significant mark after narrowly missing out on France Football’s Ballon d’Or. The football world gathered in Doha for a night of glamour and celebration, honouring the standout performers in men’s and women’s football over the past year.

Vinicius Jr, the dynamic forward, was awarded the Best Men’s Player Award. His electrifying pace, creativity, and goal-scoring prowess were instrumental in Real Madrid’s successful season.

On the women’s side, Aitana Bonmati of Spain and Barcelona was crowned the Best Women’s Player. Bonmati’s exceptional vision, dribbling skills, and leadership on the field were crucial in Barcelona’s triumphs, including their Women’s Champions League victory.

The Best Men’s Goalkeeper award was presented to Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez of Argentina and Aston Villa. Martinez’s incredible reflexes, shot-stopping abilities, and commanding presence in goal were key factors in his team’s successes.

Alyssa Naeher, representing the USA and Chicago Red Stars, won the Best Women’s Goalkeeper award. Naeher’s agility, composure, and exceptional saves were vital in the USA’s strong defensive record.

In the coaching categories, Carlo Ancelotti of Italy and Real Madrid was named the Best Men’s Coach. Ancelotti’s tactical brilliance and ability to inspire his team led Real Madrid to another triumphant season, cementing his legacy as one of football’s greatest managers.

Emma Hayes of England, who managed Chelsea and the USA, was awarded the Best Women’s Coach. Hayes’s strategic acumen and motivational skills guided her teams to impressive victories, showcasing her exceptional leadership in women’s football.

The night also celebrated extraordinary goal-scoring talent with the prestigious Puskás Award, given to Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United for his stunning overhead kick against Everton in the English Premier League.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Marta Award to Marta, the legendary Brazilian forward.

The FIFA The Best Awards 2024 celebrated the extraordinary talents and achievements of football’s finest.
