By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s session on April 1, 2025, cabinet considered the question of re-divisioning of electoral divisions.
Cabinet confirmed its earlier decision that the proposals presented by the Elections and Boundaries Commission in 2023 were unworkable and did not satisfy the requirements of the Constitution.
Therefore, cabinet requested the Minister responsible for elections and the Attorney General to liaise with the Elections and Boundaries Commission on any constitutional amendments needed to undertake a re-divisioning exercise.
In addition, it was agreed that cabinet will facilitate the Commission to ensure that the re-divisioning exercise will be completed within one year.
