By Breaking Belize News Staff: After more than two years facing a serious rape charge, 27-year-old Mic Llewellyn Flowers is now a free man following the discontinuation of the case against him in the High Court of Justice Derick Sylvester.
Flowers, who was accused of raping a 17-year-old high school student in October 2022, had his case dismissed after the virtual complainant refused to testify. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was forced to enter a nolle prosequi, effectively bringing the case to an end.
The incident reportedly took place on October 21, 2022, after the teenage victim attended a wake before heading to Eruption Night Club with a friend. She later lost consciousness and woke up the next morning wearing only her underwear inside an abandoned vehicle. A concerned neighbor had reported suspicious activity near his property, where surveillance footage allegedly showed Flowers with the victim.
Flowers was arrested and charged with rape following a police investigation and a medical examination of the victim. He was granted $10,000 bail and later committed to stand trial in 2023. His case was scheduled to begin on February 10, 2025. However, he arrived late to court and was remanded overnight at the Belize Central Prison.
On February 11, 2025, the case was called again, but with the victim unwilling to testify, the prosecution had no choice but to drop the charges. Flowers, who had been facing a potential sentence of eight years to life imprisonment if convicted, was relieved to walk free.
Flowers was represented by attorney Ronell Gonzalez.
