By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Just one day after successfully pulling off a triple-header on George Price Day (Thursday) to make up for a delayed opening, the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) 1st Division Closing Championship has hit another weather snag.

The BDFA has officially called off the double-header scheduled for this Saturday, January 17, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex. Rain on Friday have left the pitch waterlogged and deemed unplayable for competitive matches.

Fans were looking forward to a 4:30 pm clash between the Reggae Boyz and Belize United, followed by Leaders of Tomorrow facing Grave Yard FC at 6:30 pm. However, with player safety and pitch preservation in mind, those matches will be rescheduled.

This marks a stop-and-start beginning to the 2025–2026 season. The opening day games scheduled for last Sunday were also rained out, eventually being played on Thursday on the George Price holiday.

The BDFA will announce the new date for these postponed Saturday at an appropriate time.
