By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) season is set to proceed this weekend with a confirmed schedule, dispelling earlier uncertainties.
Following initial reports of a potential delay, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has released the official schedule, confirming the season’s commencement.
The PWLB season will kick off on Saturday, March 15 at 6:00 pm with a highly anticipated match between reigning champions Jewel Fury and Sagitun GIRLZ FC at the Football Federation of Belize Stadium in Belmopan
The action continues on Sunday, March 16 at 4:00 pm with Napoles FC facing off against Cayo Dreamers FC at the other Belmopan venue, the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.
The PWLB’s second season features a reduced lineup of four teams compared to the inaugural season, raising concerns about the league’s expansion and geographical representation. All participating teams are concentrated in the Cayo and Stann Creek districts.
The league is expected to follow a double round-robin format, culminating in semi-finals scheduled to begin on May 17. Jewel Fury will aim to defend their title after their championship win in the previous season.
