By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The second match of Week 2 in the 2026 Westline Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Closing Season kicks off Saturday at 6:00 pm at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence (Mango Creek), where SAGITUN GIRLZ host defending champions Napoles FC in a pivotal early-season clash. The last time they met, Napoles won 2-0 in the 2025-2026 Opening Championship final.
Both teams are looking to rebound after dropping points on Opening Weekend.
SAGITUN GIRLZ fell 2–1 to Jewel Fury on Sunday, playing without their starting goalkeeper Jasmine Armstrong, the Belize Women’s National Team No. 1. Jurshia Zúñiga scored their lone goal in the 39th minute, but the GIRLZ struggled to recover after conceding early and again shortly after halftime.

Napoles FC, meanwhile, were held to a 2–2 draw by Corozal Elite in Saturday’s season opener at the FFB Stadium. The champions came from behind to lead 2–1 through goals by Heidy López (46′) and Grace O’Neill (55′), but a late equalizer from Josefin Reyes denied them all three points.
With Napoles sitting on one point and SAGITUN GIRLZ still searching for their first, Saturday night’s match carries significant implications for the standings. A Napoles win would steady their title defense, while a victory for the GIRLZ would reignite their campaign and energize their home supporters.
The Michael Ashcroft Stadium is expected to host a charged atmosphere as two of the league’s most competitive sides meet under the lights.
