By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Fans of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) are gearing up to check out the upcoming matches set for this Saturday and Sunday. The league kicked off in style last week with two action-packed games, leaving Napoles FC atop the standings and setting the stage for more fierce competition.
In the first match this weekend, subchampions Sagitun Girlz FC will square off against Cayo Dreamers FC on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm. Sagitun Girlz, who managed a hard-fought 1-1 draw against reigning champions Jewel Fury in Week One, will be eyeing their first victory. Cayo Dreamers, still searching for their first points after a narrow 2-1 loss to Napoles FC, will look to bounce back strongly.
On Sunday, March 23, the spotlight turns to Napoles FC and Jewel Fury, as they clash at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan at 4:00 pm. Napoles FC, fresh off their opening win, lead the league with three points and will aim to consolidate their position at the top of the rankings. Meanwhile, Jewel Fury will seek to challenge the leaders and earn their first win of the season to close the gap in the standings.
A Look Back at Week One
Week One of the PWLB featured intense encounters, setting the tone for the season:
- Jewel Fury and Sagitun Girlz FC played to a 1-1 draw at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday, March 15. Jewel Fury’s Khalydia Velasquez scored in the 71st minute, only for Kenya Perez to equalize in the 88th minute, ensuring a share of the points.
- Napoles FC secured a 2-1 win over Cayo Dreamers FC at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Sunday, March 16. Jerlin Salazar and Jayda Brown found the net for Napoles FC, while Julie Ponce’s goal for Cayo Dreamers was not enough to change the outcome.
