By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Led by captain Sabrina “Sabo” Eiley in Saturday’s one‑match PWLB Final at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champions Sagitun GIRLZ bring with them a roster built on leadership, youth, experience, and the unmistakable grit of the Mid‑South. Their strength this season has come not only from their results, but from the balance and identity of a squad that has grown together and peaked at the right time.

The rivalry with Napoles FC has shaped their season. Sagitun fell 2–0 at home in Independence in the first round, but struck back in the second round with a rare 2–1 victory at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium. And although the FFB predetermined the Final’s venue in Belmopan, Sagitun have already shown they can win there. On November 22, they defeated Napoles at the FFB Stadium — the same ground where the title will be decided. With both teams having beaten each other, Saturday’s Final becomes the true decider.

At the heart of the team is captain Sabrina Eiley, who also leads the Belize Women’s National Team. A commanding presence in midfield and a scoring threat when needed, Eiley sets the tone for Sagitun with her composure, discipline, and ability to lift the team in difficult moments.

Around them, Sagitun have assembled one of the most dynamic young cores in the league. Top scorer Jolene Aranda, Kenya Perez, and Premilie Hope have all emerged as match‑winners, each capable of producing the spark that turns a tight game.

Adding even more firepower is American right‑winger Elizabeth Ryan, whose presence on the flank gives the champions another reliable outlet in transition and another threat defenders must constantly account for.

The midfield is strengthened by Libni Mojica, Anna Ortega, BWNT midfielder Gimayma Martinez, Amara Martinez, and Pauline Linarez, whose composure and work rate give Sagitun control in the engine room.

Defensively, Sagitun boast one of the most experienced units in the PWLB. Tammy Baptist anchors the back line, supported by BWNT defender Mikhaila Bowden, BWNT defender Shanté Chacón, Maria Lopez, and Karisha Coe. Throughout the season, Sagitun couldn’t always count on Bowden and Chacón because of their commitments in the United States — but both are here now, fully available for the big dance. With their return, Sagitun actually enter the Final with more depth than they had during the regular season, making them an even more formidable side at exactly the right moment.

Behind them stands BWNT goalkeeper Jasmin Armstrong, whose experience and leadership have been crucial throughout the campaign.

The squad also blends in promising youth with players like Marcelie Mar, already seasoned despite her age, and U16 BGNT standout Danyel Black, one of the brightest young prospects in Belizean football.

Coached by Liz Zabaneh, the GIRLZ appear to have found their rhythm at the perfect moment. Their semifinal performance showed a team that is confident, cohesive, and ready for the challenge ahead.

With the Opening Championship to be decided in a single match, Sagitun will rely on every piece of their roster — the veterans, the rising stars, the national‑team leaders, the returning U.S.‑based defenders, and the young talents who have grown into their roles. Together, they form a team built not just to compete, but to defend their crown.
