PUP receives 115 applications for 2027 municipal elections

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The People’s United Party has officially closed its application process for individuals hoping to contest the March 3, 2027 Municipal Elections under the party’s banner.

According to the PUP, a total of 115 applications were received from across Belize during the application period.

Among those applications, 15 individuals expressed interest in becoming mayoral candidates, while another 100 applied to run for positions on town and city councils in the country’s nine municipalities.

The strong response signals what could be a highly competitive selection process as the party prepares for the next round of municipal elections.

With applications now closed, attention shifts to the PUP’s National Campaign Committee, which has been tasked with reviewing and vetting all submissions.

Following that process, the party’s National Executive will meet to deliberate and determine which applicants will receive the party’s endorsement.

The municipal elections are scheduled for March 3, 2027, and are expected to be closely watched as both major political parties begin preparing their slates.

The PUP has not indicated when the final list of approved candidates will be announced.

For now, hopeful candidates must wait as the party begins the process of narrowing the field and selecting those who will carry the PUP banner into the municipal race.
