By Zoila Palma: The People’s United Party (PUP) marks a historic milestone today September 29, 2025, celebrating 75 years since its founding as a peaceful and constructive Belizean revolution on September 29, 1950.
Guided by the motto “Serve the People,” the party has remained committed to its founding principles, striving to deliver service and progress to Belizeans across the country.
The celebrations began on Sunday with the National Party Council in Orange Walk Town, drawing over 1,000 party leaders, delegates, and supporters.
This year’s theme, “PUP @ 75: Serving the People, Continuing the Revolution,” set the tone for a day of inspiration and recognition.
Speeches by Deputy Party Leader Cordel Hyde and Party Leader and Prime Minister John Briceno highlighted the party’s achievements and ongoing commitment to the nation.
Awards and honors were a key part of the celebration, with 13 young people receiving the Youth Award, 32 long-standing supporters receiving the George Price Service to the People Award, and 12 women who contested in general elections awarded the Gwen Lizarraga Award.
Party Chairman Henry Usher swore in new Secretary General Collet Montejo, while the Party Leader’s Award was presented to Hon. Samuel Waight.
The event concluded with a pinning ceremony for the Order of Distinguished Service, recognizing members for their dedicated contributions to the party and the country.
The PUP reaffirmed its dedication to honoring its legacy and serving the people of Belize for generations to come.
