By Horace Palacio: The Public Service Union (PSU) is sounding the alarm after an internal government memo revealed a retroactive salary increase for the Cabinet Secretary and Chief Executive Officers. The memo, dated March 28, 2025, shows that the Cabinet Secretary’s salary has jumped by 18.5%, from $81,000 to $96,000 annually. Meanwhile, CEO salaries rose by 15%, from $76,300 to $88,000. Both increases are effective mid-March, just days after the general election.

PSU President Dean Flowers didn’t hold back, labeling the pay hikes “shameless self-enrichment” and expressing outrage that such adjustments were quietly made without public consultation or clarity. Flowers said the move felt like a betrayal of trust and a slap in the face to hardworking public officers and teachers, many of whom have been struggling with frozen increments.

He also criticized the lack of transparency, questioning why such a significant raise was done so soon after elections. “It came as a thief in the night,” he said during a Zoom meeting, demanding greater accountability and warning of possible industrial action.
