By Zoila Palma: The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) has signed a BZ$8 million grant agreement with the Adaptation Fund to strengthen climate resilience in Belize’s coastal communities.

The agreement, signed on July 22, 2025, supports the 5-year project titled Enhancing the Resilience of Belize’s Coastal Communities to Climate Change Impacts.

Funded through the Adaptation Fund’s Regular Country Allocation, the project is expected to directly benefit over 117,000 people and indirectly impact an additional 100,000.

PACT will serve as the implementing agency, while the National Climate Change Office, Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing, and the Dangriga Town Council will carry out execution.

The initiative will focus on four key areas: improving coastal land use, strengthening early warning systems, implementing protection measures in high-risk zones, and building national capacity through education and data-driven planning.

This marks PACT’s third project under the Adaptation Fund since its accreditation in 2011.
