Protected Areas Conservation Trust awards total of $120,000 in Academic Support Grants to 15 Youth for Studies at 4 Academic Institutions in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 23, 2024, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) awarded a total of $120,000 in academic grants to 15 students pursuing various academic programs across 4 tertiary institutions in Belize.

The funding support is being implemented within PACT’s Youth Academic Support Grant initiative; a funding allocation made to support Belizean youths in pursuing academic studies within disciplines related to protected areas management.

Among the recipients, 9 will receive Bachelor’s level grants totalling $10,000 each, while 6 will receive Associate’s level grants totalling $5,000 each.

The selected beneficiaries will be provided with financial support for their programs which include Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Business Science.

The beneficiaries include students from the University of Belize, Galen University, Sacred Heart Junior College, and Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College.

These Youth Academic Support Grants are part of the PACT’s broader commitment to building capacity for the future growth of Belize’s environmental conservation and natural resource management workforce.

PACT noted that by nurturing the talents and passion of young conservationists via financial investments, it aims to build the next generation of conservation leaders and professionals to strengthen the support for addressing the pressing environmental challenges and create a more sustainable future for Belizean generations to come.
