By Zoila Palma:  The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) has awarded an additional BZ $3,267,756.70 in climate resilience grants to four strategic projects across Belize.

These grants were formalized during Belize’s inaugural Climate Finance Forum hosted by the Ministry of Economic Transformation on August 29, supporting efforts to bolster environmental resilience and community adaptation to growing climate risks.

The funding is allocated among 4 institutions tackling vital climate challenges: the National Biodiversity Office & Forest Department, the Ladyville Fire Station & Village Council, the Belize Zoo & Tropical Education Center, and the Ministry of Rural Transformation.

These initiatives collectively aim to enhance forest and watershed protection, strengthen wildfire preparedness, foster sustainable community development, and fortify disaster risk management across multiple vulnerable regions.

Earlier in February 2025, PACT had already committed a significant sum, bringing the total climate adaptation funding to BZ $10 million across eight projects.

These grants collectively target five key adaptation components—forestry and water conservation, wildfire mitigation, alternative livelihood development, capacity building for accessing climate finance, and community-level disaster response planning.
