By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The battle for the top spot in Group A of the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) Amateur 1st Division Championship has intensified, with Progresso FC emerging as the frontrunner after Week 3. A weekend of tough matches at the Louisiana Football Field saw impressive performances and some critical victories that have shaped the standings.
Progresso FC dominate the field
Progresso FC continue to dominate, maintaining their undefeated streak. Their latest victory, a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Trial Farm Legends on Sunday, March 23, solidified their lead. Francisco Rivas was pivotal for Progresso, scoring twice, including a penalty in the 45th minute, while Jareth Tablada added another crucial goal. With nine points and a goal difference of +5, Progresso FC stand tall at the top.
Sandy Field Wolverines stay close behind
Sandy Field Wolverines also had an outstanding weekend, securing a 3-1 win against LA Tigers. Andre Ramirez struck twice in the early minutes, followed by Moses Bol’s decisive goal in the 69th minute. This victory keeps the Wolverines in second place, just two points behind Progresso, with a matching goal difference of +5.
San Estevan Soccer Team fights for third
San Estevan Soccer Team put on a great display as they beat San Jose FC 4-2 on Saturday, March 22. Goals from Rodolfo Argueta, Hadid Torres, Kaydraun Cadle, and Aldair Chan powered their team to victory, earning them six points and third place in the standings. Their goal difference of +2 shows their determination to climb higher in the weeks ahead.
The Rest of the Pack
Trial Farm Legends find themselves in fourth place despite their spirited performance against Progresso FC, with three points and an even goal difference. San Jose FC and LA Tigers round out the group, still searching for their first victories of the tournament.
As the championship enters Week 4, all eyes will be on the upcoming matchups to see if Progresso FC can hold onto their lead or if Sandy Field Wolverines and San Estevan Soccer Team will close the gap.
