By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceño used his 45th Independence Day message to urge Belizeans to strengthen national unity and take greater responsibility for the future of the country.
Reflecting on the theme, “Look at Me, I Am Belize at 45,” Briceño said demonstrating Belize’s identity must begin at home, particularly in how citizens treat one another. “But showing the world who we are must begin with how we treat one another, how we respect our differences, how we support our communities and how we always choose unity over division,” he said.
The Prime Minister said national unity should be reflected in practical efforts within communities, including improving neighbourhoods and looking out for one another. “It means communities coming together to keep our neighbourhoods cleaner and safer, where we look out for one another,” Briceño stated.
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that Belizeans can live with dignity and security while contributing to the country’s development. “It means taking responsibility for the future of our country and ensuring that every Belizean can live with dignity, security and hope,” he said.
As Belize celebrates 45 years as an independent nation, Briceño said the country must continue building on the work of previous generations. “As we celebrate 45 years of Independence, let us honour those who came before us by continuing the work of building a stronger Belize,” he declared.
