Prime Minister says proposal to unions is ‘affordable’

Posted: Friday, June 27, 2025. 11:04 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: It will not be in one go, but an “affordable” proposal for the institution of an 8.5 percent salary increase and the return of two increments to members of the joint trade unions – the BNTU, PSU, and APSSM – has been presented.

Following Thursday’s meeting, the Prime Minister said in the House of Representatives this morning that he has no doubt that agreement can be reached because the Government has acted “in good faith.”

The unions still have to vote on the proposal, with a 21-day notice of strike looming on June 29, and a planned rally scheduled for Saturday, June 28.

It has been noted that no attendant tax increase has been planned to support the salary adjustment, while discussion has been tabled on a third increment restoration as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
