Prime Minister says lot of work pending for Plan Belize; elections not coming soon

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Prime Minister John Briceno says that there is yet a lot of work to be done with Plan Belize so elections won’t be called anytime soon.

With the current internal collapse of the UDP, it would seem like an opportune time for the Prime Minister to call the general elections.

However, during an interview with 7News Belize, PM Briceno said that “not everything is about political expediency, but about what you’ve been elected to do.”

“We have a lot of work ahead of us. And yes, the temptation is there, they say let us call the elections. But listen, we call an election right now, and I don’t want to seem boastful or arrogant, but if we call the election today. We’re going to win. We call elections next year. I believe things are there as they are, we’re going to win. And the division within UDP for which I don’t like to comment upon is so deep that they’re not going to settle that in a year’s time,” PM Briceno added.

The Prime Minister says that calling elections now would lose 1 year of work for Plan Belize.
