By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceno explained to 7News Belize on Friday that he is concerned about the reports of recent spikes in electricity bills.
“I’ve already spoken to Minister Chebat and I’ve asked him to meet with Executive Chairman Young and the people from BEL and PUC and to be able to meet with the media hopefully early next week, Monday, Tuesday, to discuss that and so it is something that we are taking a look at right now,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Briceno said that the reality though is that Belize is suffering 13 years of UDP neglect.
“The reality is that we are suffering 13 years of UDP neglect. For 13 years, the UDP did nothing to invest in BEL, to invest in infrastructure, to invest in its transmission line, to invest in more production of electricity. And I know some will say well it’s not government but government was interfering and did not allow the process,” he added.
