By Aaron Humes: Belize’s legislative leaders, Prime Minister John Briceño and Leader of the Opposition Tracey Taegar-Panton, met on Wednesday ahead of Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives.
According to the Prime Minister, “Governance is both sides of the Chambers and today I had a cordial meeting with the Leader of the Opposition to discuss national issues and important matters.”
Mesopotamia area representative Lee Mark Chang was also in attendance.
The Prime Minister was likely seeking bipartisan support for the intended acquisition of Belize’s hydroelectric plants owned by Fortis and remaining shares in Belize Electricity Limited (BEL). Under Prime Minister Dean Barrow, Belize reacquired majority shares in BEL a few years ago.
