By Zoila Palma: Today, Prime Minister John Briceño joined leaders from around the world in expressing concern following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife during an operation by the U.S.
During an exclusive interview with News 5, PM Briceño said that Belize has “consistently expressed concern about the military buildup in the Caribbean Sea” and is “equally concerned about the events that have unfolded over the past 48 hours in Venezuela.”
The Prime Minister told News 5 that Belize continues to work with CARICOM and SICA partners on a coordinated response.
“Belize is fully committed to the principles of international law and multilateralism and calls on all countries to respect these principles,” he said.
The U.S. military operation on Saturday in Venezuela led to the capture of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and his wife who have now been transferred to a detention center in the U.S.
Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez is now calling for cooperation with the U.S. and called for peace.
