By Aaron Humes: Ahead of Friday’s protest in Belmopan, Prime Minister John Briceño has told the heads of the major unions comprising the Joint Unions Negotiating Team (JUNT) that the government remains committed to “continue engagement” with the unions on their issues.

To this end, Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde has been appointed to lead the government team in negotiations along with Ministers Francis Fonseca, Oscar Requeña, Henry Charles Usher and Minister of State Chris Coye, to “seek solutions” to the issues raised and move on recommendations from the standing committees on revenue enhancement, cost saving measures and pension reform.

The unions are calling for salary and minimum wage increases as well as allowance increases for the benefit of their members.
