Prime Minister addresses nation ahead of Hurricane Beryl: “Just the beginning”

By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño in an official statement urged vigilance and preparedness during the passage of Hurricane Beryl and indicated that he was prepared to advance the current tropical storm watch to a warning depending on where the major hurricane goes in the coming hours.

After reviewing the noon position of the storm, the Prime Minister warned that residents in the northern districts and cayes should brace for heavy winds, rainfall, and flooding as conditions deteriorate: “As of now, from Belize City to Corozal, as well as residents in the Cayes, are under a tropical storm watch which will later become a tropical storm warning.”

The P.M. urged everyone to prepare, look out for their fellows, and continue listening to the official updates from the National Meteorological Service and National Emergency Management Organization, not rumors or non-official social media.

“Hurricane Beryl is just the beginning of what is expected to be a highly active hurricane season. We may have to go through this again in the coming months so it is essential that we remain informed and prepared. Together, and with the grace of our Creator, we will get through this,” the Prime Minister concluded.
