President of Guyana tour key agriculture sectors in Cayo

By Zoila Palma:  On February 2, 2026, following the Special sitting of the House of Representatives, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana, and his delegation joined Prime Minister John Briceño and senior members of the Government of Belize to tour four key locations in the Cayo District.

The first stop was Santander Sugar Limited in the Cayo District, a key location where the Caribbean Sugar Refinery, a flagship Belize/Guyana initiative, is being constructed.

Both leaders participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking.

They later visited Bel-Car in Spanish Lookout to engage in meaningful discussions about the company’s beans, grains, and refined cornmeal processing, as well as opportunities for market expansion in the Caribbean.

The delegation also toured factory operations at the Quality Poultry Products Headquarters and ended the day’s activities with a visit to Western Dairies Headquarters, where discussions focused on the company’s dairy processing operations across Belize.
