By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In an exciting collaboration between the Museum of Belize and the National Kriol Council, the Marooner’s Kriol Kolcha Summer Camp 2024 promises an enriching cultural experience for young Belizeans.
This unique summer camp, dedicated to celebrating the vibrant Kriol Kolcha, offers a variety of engaging activities aimed at preserving and promoting Belize’s rich cultural heritage.
Participants at the camp will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in traditional practices such as musical instrument making, Kriol language sessions, and learning Kriol music, songs, and folktales.
These activities are designed not only to educate but also to foster a deep appreciation for the Kriol culture among the youth of Belize.
A highlight of the camp includes a special excursion just before Emancipation Day 2024 to the Historic Gales Point Manatee.
Here, participants will partake in storytelling sessions rich with Kriol folklore and witness a traditional ‘Sambai’ dance demonstration.
They will also showcase their newly crafted musical instruments, bringing to life the essence of Kriol music in a culturally immersive experience.
Registration for the Marooner’s Kriol Kolcha Summer Camp 2024 is free, and daily snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Camp organizers thank Nando’s Wholesale Ltd., who will also sponsor field trip beverages and snacks.
