By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) is intensifying efforts to prepare for Belize’s participation in the 2025 Concacaf U15 Boys’ Championship. This week, the FFB announced the start of training sessions at its headquarters, with 60 promising young players invited to participate.
The selected players, representing regions across the country, are divided into two groups. The South and West players will attend the first training session on March 29–30, while those from the North and Central regions are scheduled for April 5–6. These sessions, running from Saturday morning to midday Sunday, will feature players in the various positions, including goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and strikers. Since they started scouting sessions in 2024, the FFB emphasized the importance of these camps in building a competitive squad to represent Belize in the championship this August.
A Comprehensive Selection Process
The road to assembling this talented group began in October 2024, when the FFB launched a two-week countrywide recruitment drive. Led by FFB Technical Officer Philip Marin, the scouting effort included national coaches Dale Palayo and Norman Koko, fitness coach Dennis Serano, and goalkeeper coach Stanley Reneau. These coaches conducted tryout sessions in major population centers, giving boys born in 2010 and 2011 the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The trials kicked off on October 12 and 13 in Orange Walk, Corozal, Belize City, and Caye Caulker, followed by sessions in San Pedro on October 14. The second weekend, October 19–20, saw trials in Independence, Punta Gorda, and Dangriga, concluding on October 26 with visits to San Ignacio, Belmopan, and the FFB Stadium. Boys from surrounding towns and villages participated.
What’s Next
While the FFB has yet to confirm the technical staff leading the upcoming training sessions, the federation has said that they remain focused on their mission to nurture young talent and develop a competitive team for the regional championship. With months of preparation ahead, Belize’s Under-15 Boys’ National Team is steadily taking shape, with the expectation of a good performance at this year’s Concacaf U15 Boys’ Championship.
