By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) is on pause for a second consecutive weekend, with national team commitments once again taking center stage.
Last weekend, the league stood down as the Belize Women’s National Team—comprised primarily of PWLB players—traveled to Honduras for two international friendlies. This week, the spotlight shifts to the U16 Belize Girls National Team, which is active in Chetumal for a Saturday friendly. The youth squad, playing locally in the PWLB as the Jaguars Girls, continues to gain valuable experience on the international stage.

While the PWLB could have opted to play and leave the Jaguars Girls’ fixture as a back match, organizers have chosen to prioritize national team development. The league is expected to resume next weekend with full action across the country.
As the standings currently sit, Napoles lead the table with 18 points, maintaining a strong grip on first place. Defending champions Sagutun GIRLZ trail with 13 points, followed closely by Corozal Elite with 11. Jewel Fury hold 6 points, the Jaguars Girls have 4, and Cayo Dreamers are still searching for their first win.
The break has offered teams a moment to regroup though it is affecting their rhythm and continuity. Meanwhile, PWLB fans are eager for the return of league play as the race for playoff positions intensifies.
