By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a week of uncertainty and rescheduling, defending champions Sagitun GIRLZ FC will finally take the pitch tonight Wednesday at 8:00 pm against Cayo Dreamers FC in their rescheduled Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) opener. The match, originally slated for Saturday, September 13 at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, was postponed due to waterlogged conditions following persistent rains in Independence.
Due to the unpredictability of the weather, Sagitun GIRLZ were forced to give up home advantage, agreeing to play on a neutral field at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. While the relocation may slightly favor Cayo Dreamers, who are based in nearby San Ignacio, Sagitun could also benefit from the FFB’s superior pitch conditions, which suit their technical style and ball control.
Tonight’s fixture gives Sagitun GIRLZ a golden opportunity to leap into first place—but they’ll need more than just a win. Currently sitting third with three points and a +5 goal difference, Sagitun must defeat Cayo Dreamers by at least seven goals to surpass Napoles FC, who lead the standings with six points and a +11 goal difference. If they win by 6, they’ll be tied on goal difference (+11) but still trail Napoles on goals scored (Napoles have 12, Sagitun would have 11).
Sagitun GIRLZ come into the match riding high after a commanding 6–0 victory over Jewel Fury last weekend. Captain Sabrina Eiley, fresh off a hat trick performance, will once again lead the southern squad alongside scorers Jolena Aranda and Premilie Hope, whose fluid attacking play overwhelmed Jewel Fury.

Meanwhile, Cayo Dreamers will be looking to rebound from their 6-0 loss to Corozal Elite. With three points from two matches, they’ll need a disciplined defensive showing to contain Sagitun’s relentless offense and stay in the top half of the table.
With the top spot within reach, tonight’s clash is more than just a rescheduled fixture—it’s a great opportunity for Sagitun GIRLZ to reaffirm their title credentials and for Cayo Dreamers to prove they belong in the top tier.
Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm under the lights in Belmopan. Fans can expect a fast-paced, high-intensity match with plenty on the line.
