By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The reigning champions Sagitun GIRLZ are regrouping—and the rivalry is heating up.
After falling 2–0 to Napoles FC on Saturday at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence in Week 4 of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) 2025-2026 Opening Championship, Sagitun GIRLZ responded with grace and grit, acknowledging the setback while promising to bounce back stronger.
“Even champions slip! We’ll pick up ourselves, dust this off and go at it again!” the champions posted on social media.
“Thank you to everyone that made it out [Saturday night] and supported these very tenacious girls! We’ll see you all again shortly ”
The loss was Sagitun GIRLZ’s first of the season, and it came against the very team they edged out for last season’s PWLB title. That history has turned their encounters into the league’s most compelling matchup—two elite squads trading blows, each with championship ambitions and passionate fanbases.
On Saturday, Napoles struck early. Roshanny Narvaez netted in the 12th minute, followed by Khalydia Velasquez in the 17th, securing the visitors’ fourth straight win and sole possession of the league lead with 12 points and a +28 goal difference.
Sagitun GIRLZ, now third with seven points, remain firmly in playoff contention. But their post-match message reflected more than just resilience—it was a reminder of their championship DNA. Led by captain Sabrina Eiley, they’ve been here before, and they know how to respond.
With the season still unfolding, the PWLB’s top rivalry is far from settled. Napoles may lead for now, but Sagitun GIRLZ are already looking ahead to the next chapter.
Week 4 also saw Corozal Elite defeat Jewel Fury 3–1, while Jaguar Girls cruised past Cayo Dreamers 7–0. But the spotlight remains on Sagitun GIRLZ and Napoles FC—two teams whose battles continue to define the Premier Women’s League of Belize.
But, Corozal Elite, led by Kaite Jones, are as hungry as they come.
