Reigning champions Sagitun GIRLZ FC return to the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence tonight, Saturday, December 13, carrying a 4–2 advantage into the second leg of their Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) Opening Championship semifinal against Corozal Elite FC.
In the first leg at the Carolina Football Field, Sagitun GIRLZ showed their attacking power with goals from Sabrina Eiley (20’ PK), Marcelie Mar (30’), Premilie Hope (44’), and Tammy Baptist (67’). Corozal Elite fought back through Josefin Reyes (63’) and Kaite Jones (79’), but the champions held firm to secure the away win.
Now, with the tie shifting south, Sagitun GIRLZ are determined to defend their home turf and secure a place in the final. Corozal Elite, meanwhile, must overturn the two‑goal deficit to keep their dream alive.
Kickoff is set for 6:00 pm at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium. The winner will advance to the PWLB Final.
Ahead of the decisive clash, Sagitun GIRLZ issued a passionate call to fans across the South:
“The Majestic!! The Michael Ashcroft Stadium! That’s our home! That’s where we grew up playing in six-a-side tournaments, local Female Banana Leagues and now get to represent our community at the highest level of Female Football in Belize! Our players sacrifice so much to be at this level, all we ask for is your support this weekend as we aim to defend our home turf and earn a place in this Opening Season Finals! Come out this Saturday and cheer on… not for us but for all females in the Mid-South!”
