Napoles FC tightened their grip on the top of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) table with a 3–1 comeback win over Corozal Elite on Sunday at Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, extending their perfect record to five wins in five matches.
Corozal Elite stunned the home crowd early by opening the scoring, but Napoles responded with poise and precision. Khalydia Velasquez equalized before Ashley Rodriguez converted a penalty to give Napoles the lead. Velasquez then sealed the win with her second goal, capping a brilliant performance from the league leaders.
The victory was all the more impressive given the absence of Napoles’ top scorer Jayda Brown, who missed the match due to suspension. Corozal also had to contend without midfield anchor Kaite Jones, whose absence was felt as Napoles gradually took control of possession and tempo.
Despite the early breakthrough, Corozal couldn’t maintain momentum and now slip to third place on goal difference. Sagitun GIRLZ, who routed Jaguar Girls 6–0 on Saturday, move into second place with a superior goal difference. Both Sagitun and Corozal sit on ten points, but Sagitun’s +17 (20 GF, 3 GA) edges Corozal’s +7 (13 GF, 6 GA).
Napoles, meanwhile, have now scored 32 goals and conceded just two, boasting a staggering +30 goal difference and a five-point cushion at the top of the table
Next Up:
Napoles will aim to keep their flawless run alive in Week 6, while Sagitun and Corozal continue their battle for second place and playoff positioning.
