By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Jewel Fury FC wrapped up their regular season campaign in spectacular fashion, overwhelming Cayo Dreamers with an 11-0 rout at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday. The dominant performance secured Fury’s position as the second seed heading into the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) semifinals.
The match was one-sided from the start, with Shanay Nasario opening the scoring early in the 5th minute. Ceneia Apolonio followed up in the 36th, before an avalanche of goals in the second half sealed Dreamers’ fate.
Ailani Gonzalez struck in the 48th minute, while Shadette Lino added two quick goals in the 50th and 52nd minutes. Khalydia Velasquez then led the late surge, netting a hat trick with goals in the 66th, 81st, and 84th minutes. Jennisha Scott joined the scoring spree with two goals in the 67th and 85th minutes, while Jahnell Nunez rounded off the dominant display with a strike in the 79th minute.
Cayo Dreamers, who have struggled throughout the season, were unable to cope with Fury’s relentless attack. The defeat extended their winless run, as they finished the regular season without earning a single point.
In the other weekend match, Sagitun GIRLZ edged Napoles FC 3-2 on Sunday at the same venue, completing their unbeaten regular season run in dramatic fashion.
With the regular season now complete, the PWLB moves into the semifinal stage. Sagitun GIRLZ, having finished atop the standings, will take on fourth-place Cayo Dreamers, while second-place Jewel Fury will face third-place Napoles FC in a crucial battle for a spot in the final.
Defending champions Jewel Fury will carry plenty of momentum into the next stage, as they look to build on their commanding form and challenge Sagitun GIRLZ for the league title.
