Despite falling 4–2 at home to reigning champions Sagitun GIRLZ in the first leg of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) 2025 Opening Championship semifinals, Corozal Elite FC say they are far from done.
The North side battled hard at the Carolina Football Field on Saturday, December 6, but Sagitun’s firepower proved decisive. The visitors struck through Sabrina Eiley (20’ PK), Marcelie Mar (30’), Premilie Hope (44’), and Iamara Baptist (67’). Corozal Elite responded with goals from Josefin Reyes (63’) and Kaite Jones (79’), keeping the tie alive despite the two-goal deficit.
After the match, Corozal Elite thanked their fans for the “amazing love” shown throughout the tournament, acknowledging the challenge of facing the champions but insisting their team “never gives up.” The club vowed to leave “heart and soul” on the pitch in the return leg, determined to make their families and supporters proud.
“This coming Saturday we are leaving heart and soul to make our people and families proud,” Corozal Elite FC said.
“We keep on with the dream.”
The decisive second leg will be played at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday, where Corozal Elite must overturn the 4–2 scoreline to reach the final.
