By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the Premier League of Belize’s 2024-2025 Closing Championship enters its fifth week, the excitement reaches fever pitch with a thrilling lineup of matches marking the end of the first round in the regular season.
Leaders Verdes will kick off the weekend action with a match against last-place Belmopan FC at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, February 15, at 7:30 pm. Verdes currently lead the championship with 10 points from four games, while Belmopan FC are still winless but have one point after their scoreless draw with Wagiya last weekend
Champions Port Layola, currently in second place with seven points from three games, will take on the San Pedro Pirates, who have dropped to fourth place with six points from four games. This match is set for 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex.
Additionally, Progresso will face Wagiya on Sunday, February 16, at 4:00 pm. Progresso are currently third with six points from three matches, while Wagiya are in fifth place with one point.
The standings after four weeks of play are as follows:
(Note that while four weeks have been completed, Port Layola and Progresso have only played three games. Their back match hasn’t been rescheduled.)

- Port Layola – 7 points
- Progresso – 6 points
- San Pedro – 6 points
- Wagiya – 1 point
- Belmopan – 1 point
