By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Only two of the remaining three matches to complete the Premier League of Belize regular season were played over the weekend. The match between Wagiya and Bandits was rescheduled for Thursday at 8:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
The PLB announced early on Sunday morning that the pitch at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga was “not in good condition” and “furthermore, the weather pattern is unpredictable.” The decision to postpone was made with both parties agreeing, the PLB said.
The match, which had been postponed twice due to bad weather, was called off for a third time. Despite the PLB stating that if the matches couldn’t be played at the clubs’ home fields, they would be rescheduled to be played at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan either Saturday or Sunday, the Wagiya match was left for Thursday and switched to the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, the Bandits’ home field. This must have been because the match has no bearing on the playoffs as both teams are at the bottom of the standings.
The only match that was played as scheduled was the San Pedro Pirates vs Progresso encounter. Both teams played to a 2-2 draw in San Pedro on Saturday. The Verdes-Port Layola match couldn’t be played in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday and was left for Sunday at the FFB Stadium, where Verdes prevailed 1-0.
