By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Premier League of Belize regular season finishes on Thursday with the match between Wagiya and Bandits, scheduled for 8:00 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
According to the PLB, the game, originally slated for Sunday afternoon at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, was postponed for a third time because the pitch was “not in good condition” and the weather pattern was unpredictable. The match had been postponed twice before for the same reason.
With the San Pedro Pirates’ 2-2 draw against Progresso and Verdes edging Port Layola 1-0, the Wagiya-Bandits match is the last remaining fixture in the 2024-2025 Opening Season.
Wagiya (1 point) and the Bandits (4 points) are fighting to avoid finishing last. Currently, the Bandits have the edge as a win or draw favours them. Wagiya would have to win by a two-goal difference to get out of last place.
