By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC secured a resounding 4-0 victory over Wagiya SC at Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday in Week 8 of the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship. Though the road to the title appears full of obstacles, the win keeps their hopes alive. At least for now.
The match saw Verdes take an early lead with a goal from Desmond Wade in the 5th minute, followed by Krisean Lopez’s strike in the 16th minute. Wade further cemented Verdes’ dominance with a second goal in the 19th minute, and Owen Sosa capped off the first half with a goal in stoppage time (45+1).
With this win, Verdes FC now have 15 points, placing them four points behind league leaders Port Layola. Wagiya SC, on the other hand, remain in last place with just two points.
In another Saturday match, Belmopan FC triumphed over San Pedro Pirates with a 2-0 win in San Pedro.
The final Week 8 match of the Premier League of Belize Closing Championship will take place on Sunday in Orange Walk, where Progresso will face off against leaders Port Loyola.
