By Rubén Morales Iglesias: League leaders Verdes FC extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches with a clinical 2–0 win over third-place Progresso at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The result cemented Verdes FC’s position at the top of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship standings with 27 points.
Desmond Wade opened the scoring in the 26th minute, and Daiver Vega sealed the win with a well-taken penalty in the 70th. Verdes’ defense held firm throughout, keeping Progresso’s potent attack at bay and recording their fifth clean sheet of the season.
Verdes had already qualified for the playoffs some time ago, and with this weekend’s results, Progresso also secured their spot with 20 points from 12 completed matches. Though they can still be caught by fourth-place Belmopan FC, they are now out of reach of Napoles, who have only one game left. The race for the final playoff spot is now between Belmopan, Napoles, and Wagiya.
