By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola and Verdes FC played to a goalless draw at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City during Week 9 of the Premier League of Belize 2024-2025 Closing Championship. The two teams also played to the same score in their first-round meeting, showing the evenly matched nature of their encounters.
Both teams remain dominant in the standings, with Port Layola leading with 23 points and Verdes solidifying second place with 16 points, ensuring their playoff spots. Progresso also confirmed their playoff qualification, leaving San Pedro Pirates and Belmopan Bandits to fight for the final slot.
In the Road to Concacaf Cumulative Table, Port Layola currently lead Verdes FC 39-37. Although Verdes have one more match to play, the likelihood of overtaking Port appears slim. For Verdes to claim the top spot, they would need a victory against Belmopan, combined with a Port Layola loss against San Pedro Pirates. However, this scenario is highly unlikely, considering the strength of Port Layola and Verdes’ first-round loss to Belmopan, who defeated them 3-1.
