Premier League of Belize: Verdes run over Police Benque 4-0, regain top spot

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes were merciless against Police Benque crushing them 4-0 at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio in Week 5 of the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Closing Championship.

Argentine Matías Verón giot things going in the fifth minute. Verdes pressure caused Antonio Chavarria to score in his own goal in injury time at the end of the first half (45’ +)

Then as the second half started, Darrel Myvett struck in the 53^rd.

Colombian Ronald Benavides put the game away 4-0 in the 62^nd minute.

The victory sent Verdes back to first place over Benque Viejo United who had overnight taken the spot after their Saturday 3-1 win over Wagiya.

Police Benque, in the meantime, languish in the cellar with only one point in five outings.

In the other game on Saturday, Port Layola blanked Progresso 2-0 in Orange Walk.

On Friday, defending champions Altitude dumped the Belmopan Bandits 4-1 in Belmopan.
