By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC launched their 2025–2026 Premier League of Belize Opening Season campaign in emphatic fashion, dismantling Capital Sport Club 7–0 at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The reigning Closing Season champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring five goals before halftime and sending a clear message to the rest of the league.
Early Onslaught Sets the Tone
Desmond Wade opened the floodgates in the very first minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to put Verdes ahead. Colombian Daiver Vega doubled the lead in the 24th minute, followed by a clinical finish from Jahyrl Smith ten minutes later. Felix Martinez converted a penalty in the 36th, and Ze Carlos Carrillo added a fifth just three minutes later.

Second Half, Same Story
Wade struck again in the 63rd minute, completing his brace. An own goal in the 68th minute—credited by Verdes to Puerto Rican Joel Burgos—sealed the 7–0 scoreline. The Green Machine’s fluid attack and disciplined backline left Capital Sport Club, competing under the Benque United franchise, with few answers in their PLB debut. Verdes’ seasoned roster and international experience proved too much for the newcomers, who now face a steep learning curve in Belize’s top flight.
Next Up: Saprissa Awaits
After a 4–1 setback against Motagua in the Central American Cup, Verdes bounced back with purpose. The Green Machine now shift focus to another international fixture, welcoming Costa Rican giants Saprissa on Tuesday, August 5 at the FFB Stadium. With the PLB opener boosting morale, the Green Machine will look to carry momentum into their second Central American Cup match

While Verdes dismantled Capital Sport Club in Benque, Port Layola and Progresso played to a thrilling 2–2 draw at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City. Coming up next, Napoles FC will debut against Wagiya SC on Wednesday, August 6, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. Belmopan FC kick off their season hosting Progresso on Saturday, August 9.
