By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC secured a 2-0 victory over Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday, but it was far from an easy win. The match, in Week 3 of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Championship, was a testament to Verdes’ resilience and determination as they faced a tough challenge from Wagiya.
The first goal came late in the 70th minute, with Desmond Wade finding the back of the net after much insistence from the Cayo side. Verdes continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded in stoppage time when Jordy Polanco scored the second goal in the 90’+5, securing the 2-1 win for Verdes.
This victory marks Verdes’ third straight win, placing them at the top of the championship standings with nine points. Wagiya, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive loss but showed more competitiveness in this match.
In the only other match, San Pedro Pirates edged Belmopan FC 2-1 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan. The match between Port Layola and Progresso FC, scheduled for Sunday at the Marion Jones Sports Complex, was postponed due to a shooting incident at the venue on Friday.
