By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC delivered a commanding 4–1 victory over Progresso FC in a Week 6 match of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk on Sunday.

In this top-of-the-table showdown, second-place Progresso hosted unbeaten leaders Verdes in what was billed as the marquee matchup of the weekend. Verdes entered the match tied on points but now stand alone at the top with 11 points (3W, 2D, 0L) and a +11 goal differential. Progresso, meanwhile, drop to third with 8 points (2W, 2D, 2L).

Verdes wasted no time asserting dominance, as Christian Sánchez Ramírez opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Desmond Wade doubled the lead just before halftime, silencing the home crowd. Progresso responded early in the second half through Andir Chi, briefly igniting hopes of a comeback.

But Verdes’ composure and tactical depth prevailed. Paraguayan striker Luis Ibarra, who recently returned to the Green Machine after a stint in El Salvador, netted twice—once in the 67th minute and again deep into stoppage time—to seal a commanding win. The result firmely places Verdes in first place and sends a clear message to the rest of the league: they’re not just unbeaten—they’re in control.
