By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Under the lights of the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium, Verdes FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Belmopan FC on Saturday night in Round 5 of the 2025–2026 Opening Championship of the Premier League of Belize.
The match’s lone goal came in the 76th minute, when Verdes’ Desmond Wade, who had come off the bench, broke the deadlock with a clinical header that sent the home crowd into celebration. The goal proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter that saw both teams vying for early control of the standings.
With the win, Verdes FC climbed to eight points, momentarily taking over first place on goal difference ahead of Progresso FC who visit Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday. Both clubs have played four matches. Meanwhile, Belmopan FC, who entered the weekend atop the table, slipped to third place with seven points, level with Napoles FC, who are inactive this round.

Verdes’ disciplined defense and Wade’s timely strike now place them in pole position as the championship heats up. But that might be short-lived if Progresso manage at least a draw against Wagiya in Sunday.
